Topkapi palata (Topkapı Sarayı) Izgrađena je po nalogu Sultana Mehmeda II Fatiha, u periodu od 1460. do 1478. godine. Smještena je na Akropoli, mjestu prvog naselja u Istanbulu, odakle se pruža impresivan pogled na Zlatni rog, Bosfor i Mramorno more. Palata je kompleks okružen zidovima u dužini od 5 km i zauzima površinu od 700.000 m². Bila je administrativno sjedište Osmanskog carstva i službena rezidencija sultana u periodu od 1465. do 1853. godine, odnosno sve do izgradnje Dolmabahçe Sarayı (Dolmabahče palata). Od 1924. godine palata je pretvorena u muzej. Upisana je sa ostalim spomenicima “Historijske jezgre Istanbula”, na UNESCO-ovu listu svjetske baštine u Evropi. Topkapı Sarayı (Topkapi Palace) was commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II Fatih and built between 1460 and 1478 AD. It is located on the Acropolis, the first settlement in Istanbul, which provides a breathtaking view at the Golden Horn, Bosporus and the Sea of Marmara. The Palace is a complex surrounded by walls the length of 5 km, covering a surface of 700 000 m². It was the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire and the official residence of the sultans in the period between 1465 and 1853, i.e. until the construction of Dolmabahçe Sarayı (Dolmabahçe Palace). In 1924 the palace was turned into a museum. It is enlisted with the rest of the monuments of the “Historic core of Istanbul” in UNESCO’s world heritage sights list in Europe.
