Rome – Piazza Venezia

Piazza Venezia je centralni Trg u Rimu, kojim dominira spomenik posvećen Viktoru Emanuelu II (Monumento nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II), prvog kralju ujedinjene Italije (1861-1878).

Piazza Venezia is the central square in Rome. It is dominated by the monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II (Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II), the first king of united Italy (1861-1878). Construction began in 1885 by Giuseppe Sacconia project, and after his death (1905) the work was continued by architects Gaetano Koch, Manfredo Manfredi and Pio Piacentini. The inauguration took place in 1911 on the 50th anniversary of the unification of Italy. On the right side of the square stands the Palazzo Venezia (Venice Palace), built in 1455 which houses the museum Museo Nazionale del Palazzo di Venezia, and on the left is its copy. Cars constantly pass the square, and instead of signalling lights, traffic is regulated by a policeman standing on a high pedestal in the centre of the square.
